Unfiltered Beeswax + Antioxidant Rich Propolis

As we ventured to know more about the waxy substance we use as an emulsifier in our skin products, we went in search of a beeswax that is true to its most natural state, unfiltered and unaltered to show it’s quality and beauty from nature. Typically bee’s have a flight radius of 5 miles from their hive and collect pollen from flora and fauna on their flight path. If you’ve ever been to Kauai you may know of it as the lush ‘Garden Isle’ of the Hawaiian islands. That being said we wanted to make sure that instead of filtering out all the compounds of beeswax why wouldn't we just leave them in so you can benefit from it's most natural and unaltered form.

We're talking about a substance called propolis, which is a resinous mixture that honey bees produce by mixing saliva and beeswax together to seal off spaces in their beehive. A bit of biology on the hive, beeswax is the collection of botanical sources of plant pollen, nectar & sap that creates the honeycomb where honey is produced to feed the colony of bees. Honey is the bees primary source of carbohydrates which they use to feed their young and specifically pollen is the bees primary source of protein. Propolis is a wonderful combination of all of these plant pollens and saps that may create darker pigmented pieces that when melted down from the beeswax can be observed in your made to order batches of Coco Bee. There may also be a color variation with each jar because of the mixing of pollen oils into honeycomb due to the seasonality of plants that alter the wax into a yellow or brown color .

In diving more into the benefits of propolis and skincare we have found it to help skin naturally retain more moisture for a healthier, more vibrant complexion. It’s anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help with gentle sensitive skin; in that it is a naturally cooling and can help reduce redness as well as acne. If you are into pH and skin, propolis is slightly acidic at 5.1 +- .11 which a slightly acidic pH especially on your facial skin is what you would want to stay within because of it antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. If you know anything about antioxidants and use a vitamin C serum or our 4-in-1 moisturizer (the aloe we use in this product contains natural Vitamin C!) in your daily routine, propolis can help boost the effectiveness of the vitamin C in your skincare.

We hope you enjoy this new beautiful ingredient in our Coco Bee skincare, we are very excited to share it with you.
